It may have been a mid-click. Happens sometimes.

Weird. Lol 😆 It looked like a mod was getting too emotional.

Regarding your statement that smokers will get sick, whereas a boxer only may get damaged, that's not actually true. It's all just an increase in chances, which is why you get these 100 year old smokers. So, like I said, it's all just about where you draw the line. And your economic argument applies to pretty much everything that increases risk. Guns, fast food, boxing, not wearing seatbelts, etc. All burden society. Good argument for a nanny state.

Not a fan, but when it comes to drugs, I’m firmly in the “legalize everything” camp, even when the drug in question is as high risk, low reward as tobacco.

Don’t threaten me with a good time. Smile

And yes, of course all risky behaviours are a societal burden, but it’s important to keep in mind how much of a burden.

The healthcare costs associated with smoking are closing in on two trillion dollars (PPP) per year. It’s hard to imagine a risky behaviour or group of behaviours that approach that.

And the under 18 group with cancers commonly related to smoking is on the rise. My hillbilly cousins are losing kids even faster than they do during the annual Christmas (Guns make GREAT gifts) slaughter.

RE: Smoking
Smoking is a lighter form of taking "drugs".
Nicotine is a drug.
Limit the habit if you're young, and don't allow it to be a part of who you are.

I began smoking in my teens to be like "Solid Snake" from the Metal Gear video game:

But I regret that I even began.

Maybe not in our fossil fuel powered micro plastic saturated and disposable world. Honestly, I think we'll look back and see smoking as quaint - in comparison to all of the other ways we incur societal costs.

For those of us in countries with healthcare systems where that even applies, ofc.

It's still a curse, so let's not ignore the problems it creates.

OFC, and if every decent cause had as good a campaign as the anti smoking push we'd live in a nicer world.

RE: Smoking
Dying prematurely is strongly correlated with the habit, more than any of the other habits besides alcohol you can name. What specific harmful habits are you referring to?
