Technically holes are just an absence, the lack of something, and yet it is still possible to quantify and describe holes by their size, location, pattern, etc. While one can adhere to the trivial notion that atheism is a lack and really nothing at all...that posture, seems a bit limiting for intellectual discourse. Atheism does have a broad range of meanings but that does not mean it is, as a category, devoid of meaning.
