The nature of God

RE: The nature of God
Anything that emerged from the universe would not be God, who is the supposed creator of the universe, but a product of another function. God is at it's most basic defined as the intelligent creator of everything with no cause for it's own existence, so if this hypothetical thing you propose as emerging from the universe was true, It wouldn't be "God"

You're talking in circles. It's God, but we call it something else.

Talking in circles? Stop being so daft.

All i said was if this hypothetical emergence exists but is not the eternal intelligent designer of the universe then i will not label it God. God is a label that already has criteria, namely that it created the universe. Anything emergent in the universe would not be 'god' by definition.

Interesting question Badger. You're asking what kind of God do we need to postulate for it to fit with scientific evidence of the know universe? Cool. So, for me a that would be a God which exists outside the universe but watches us. Such an entity might have started the Big Bang or caused it to come into being somehow and then just watched the events unfurl.

OR maybe he just peaced out. Maybe this god starts new universes all over the place and just doesn't even care what happens. That would make sense.

However, I think Dinosaur comics explain my favorite possibility very well:

Thinking Hmmm Zen...very interesting just let me get a glass of wine.

So ...

1. we have no "God" of any description?
2. we have no "Sacred texts" no matter how ancient or recent?
3. we have no need for an organised socio-ecconomic / political structure or hieracy?
4. and yet we still observe "things" happening around us that we may or may not have / had some
in put in bringing about??
5. with regards to 4. ... what would we call it? (if anything) and what would we do with it?

You may be onto something here....

I am thinking that the Wiccans may have something to contribute as far as the use of "spiritual energy" (for want of a better name).
As for my self?? I just can't dismiss that there is "something", well hidden, that is not interested in humans nor anything else we would care to anthropomorhesise (?spelling) regarding the universe. It's nature would be uncaring and "cold" by our standards. I would envisage that this "Entity" (again for want of the lack of human labels) would only be interested in being more of itself for itself because it can. .....Thinking Out of wine brb

lukec....Love the Dinosaur comics! Thanks for the link

Since we can safely dismiss the God of the Bible as being incompatible

With the observed universe, what would be the nature of a God that is?

For instance, Would it(since God has no gender) be an emergent property

of the universe?

Thank you for pointing out that "God" has no gender.

I have no real opinions in regard to this thread other than the dinosaur comics are hilarious! - Good work lukec.
And have we established what is actually on the other side of a black hole... if anything?
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense

Lilith said:"Thank you for pointing out that "God" has no gender."

That is a reference to another god the god of the bible is always represented as a male, hence his prejudice against women. The biblical god suffers from the Ralph Cramden syndrome which states the following:"I am the king of my castle and Alice is a mere peasant"! According to the scriptures women are supposed to be subject to the men. Personally it's nothing more than a bunch of chauvinistic crap. I love a strong and independent woman.

No. God is 'in' everything, and is everywhere. Your definition is too narrow, and your dismissal inadequate.

So by your definition god is entirely space and energy.
