I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

The Changeling, I remember seeing this in the theater over 40 years ago. George C. Scott is excellent in this film, it's about a man trying to move on after his wife and daughter are killed in an accident right in front of him.
He moves cross country to Seattle(our current location) to lecture on music, and ends up renting a huge old house with a dark history.

It's an excellent ghost/haunted house film. If you haven't seen it, I'd recommend it.

I've actually heard a lot of theories that make this make sense:
1) The President really did end up fucking up that badly that even these two seemingly polar opposite states pulled an Enemy Mine situation. This is the one that Alex Garland has actually confirmed.
2) The Western Forces were actually mostly military defectors, and some of America's largest domestic military bases are in Texas and California.
3) Remember that there's a lot of liberal enclaves in Texas, and conservative enclaves in California.
4) There's a good chance that these sides aren't even necessarily fighting along ideological lines.

Also, evidently the Deep Hurting Project's back in hibernation. Turns out that Tubi's upload of Invasion of the Neptune Men is the original Japanese version, and I decided long ago that I'd only jump the one-inch-tall barrier for films that are actually good. Plus, the English dub is actually worse, and therefore better for the Project.
