Jesus?

Jesus?
Do you think that there are those who believe that there was a man who was the son of God and did and said all of those things that are attributed to Jesus but don't accept that this person was Jesus himself as it seems pretty clear that the 'story' of Jesus is far older than Jesus himself?

But, because it can never be known who this character actually was they simply go along with the biblical story as for them, it's the story that's important rather than the actual, physical character?

Would they call themselves Christians?

I would say in that instance they could still call themselves Christians (assuming they beieved the other tennants). They're still following in the beliefs of Jesus, they just don't know if he's that Jesus or Jesus from previous era, etc.

There may have been an early sect in the Church like the one you speak of; we do know that that other sects like the Gnostics were suppressed for having different beliefs.

Do you know of any of these people of which you speak?

Most believers accept whatever the charlatans in the pulpits tell them.

It's much easier than thinking.
