How do you feel when someone directly tells you ...

RE: How do you feel when someone directly tells you ...
I don't get offended, but I won't let them get away with it. I'll make sure they know what I think of them for thinking that another human being deserves to be tortured forever.

I do have religious friends who tell me they don't think I'm going to hell, that I'm a good person and it wouldn't make sense if I went to hell just because I don't believe. So I don't cut people slack when they tell me I'm going to hell.

Doesn't happen often though, my friends are pretty secular even the ones who identify with a religion.

Doesn't bother me really, I find it quite funny. What I do find slightly offensive is when people say "god bless" instead of goodbye..

I don't think I've ever been told I'd go to hell, which is odd, since we mobility-impaired folks (see sig) are magnets for christians. But what does annoy me is the condescension of some folks who are just like "Have fun with that atheism."

The proper answer to that sentiment being, "with all the drinking, gambling, and premarital sex I'm no longer forced to forgo, I'm sure I will!"

And then you leave, preening like a goddamn boss. Wink

I've never been told that, aside from the snarky "go to hell" insult, but that's not exactly the same as a Christian telling me I'll burn in hell.

I'd probably be offended. I wouldn't dismiss it as silly because I don't believe in a hell, I'd acknowledge that this person talking to me believes it...which means they want to banish me to eternal suffering. That's just fucked up, man.

Usually I just don't care about it at all, I'll just ignore them. Unless they're REALLY pissed off, then I just laugh in their face. I really don't get much of the latter though, most people around here are pretty accepting.

I ask them if they're okay, and if there's anything I can do.

... Because I feel genuine worry and concern for them. Undecided

Somebody telling me I'm going to burn in hell is kind of like someone saying to me 'Oh yeah? Guess what Santa is giving you this year? COAL, BITCH!'.

Big deal.
If anything it just makes me laugh, and I realize I've been giving that person wayyyyy to much credit.

I believe you guys are reading into this hell thing what you want to see, I personally have told people if they do not change they will spend an eternity in hell. I've never said it with malice but, with concern or at the very least to support an argument. I say things as my beliefs lead me and one thing my belief tells me is not to be malicious to others. Many here thinks it's okay to use undesirable language against others and I consider that disrespectful and malicious but those who do it don't, they call it freedom of speech, yet when a Christian says to another they are going to hell we somehow cross the bounds of freedom of speech. I've been told to go to hell several times, yet have not heard anyone objecting to it and I certainly haven't raised cane about it.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

You know you are winning an argument when a theist threatens you with hell. If nothing else works, go for the scare tactics. I actually find it quite funny when they do it. Its like they don't realise we don't believe in hell either.
