But what if the claim is more then hearing the Angel, but actually seeing Angels. Wouldn't that only be a trait of schizophrenics provided he is truthful and it's not of divine origin.

Yeah this is what I thought too. So in this case, is it possible the Prophet Mohammad was being truthful but hallucinated his experiences?

Not at all. In fact, I would venture to say that is a sign that it is something other than schizophrenia. Schizophrenics most often suffer auditory hallucinations. Visual hallucinations do not typically take specific forms. They can be shadows moving and other menacing things, but the likelihood of a schizophrenic seeing a nice angel that didn't tell them to do horrible things or make fun of them would be rare indeed, in my opinion. Schizophrenics don't have pleasant la-di-da religious experiences that are associated with their illness.

Quote:You can be sane and have schizophrenia.

Not sure that's true; schizophrenia is a psychotic condition, which makes the person insane by definition. A schizophrenic can appear to be quite rational most of the time. Many can function with antipsychotic medication, but so far, there is no cure.*

I became interested in the condition in 1973 when my then girlfriend developed the the condition at age 19. I watched in horror as my darling went insane.

Quote:Schizophrenia (/ˌskɪtsɵˈfrɛniə/ or /ˌskɪtsɵˈfriːniə/) is a mental disorder characterized by a breakdown of thought processes and by poor emotional responsiveness.[1] It most commonly manifests itself as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking, and it is accompanied by significant social or occupational dysfunction. The onset of symptoms typically occurs in young adulthood, with a global lifetime prevalence of about 0.3–0.7%.[2] Diagnosis is based on observed behavior and the patient's reported experiences.

*the only exception I've heard of was a Canadian woman about 30 years ago claimed to have cured a schizophrenic. She did that by devoting 24/7 for YEARS.

My brother is schizophrenic. He's not insane and no court would declare him such. Some schizophrenics are insane, but the two are not equal terms.
